Monday, Nov. 28th

We wrote a JOURNAL RESPONSE to the end of The Crucible today.  If you were absent, you will write this as soon as you return to class.  After the in class writing, we started watching The Front and noting the parallels between the film and the play.

Wednesday, Nov. 23rd

We finished Act IV and discussed the concept of the “Christ figure archetype” and the crucible metaphor.  Next class, you will write a JOURNAL RESPONSE to the play in class.

Monday, Nov. 21st

The written judgments on the debate were due today, and with this assignment, Term One ends.

We finished reading and discussing Act III and then wrote an example of each of the three types of irony in this act (situational, dramatic, and verbal irony).  This was handed in at the end of class.

We just started Act IV and are on page 123.

Congratulations on an exciting and passionate debate today!  Well done!

If you were the audience, you need to write a paragraph on your judgment on this debate.  Be sure to justify your decision based on the arguments the two sides presented.  Use the MLA citation format (in text parenthetical reference, works cited list at the end).  You may refer to this link as a reference:

Tuesday, Nov. 15th

We finished reading and discussing Act II and the appendix (148).  We then prepared for the DEBATE on whether Abigail Williams is a villain or a victim.  Those who are not speaking will be writing their verdict and handing this in on Monday, Nov. 21st.  No lates will be accepted as Term One ends Nov. 18th.

Thursday, Nov. 10th

We read and discussed Act Two, up to page 70, after going over the results of the first response journal.

For homework, write a paragraph on the FOUR faults Hale has discovered in the Proctor household.  What are the logical explanations for each of these flaws?  This is due on Tuesday, Nov. 15th.

Wednesday, Nov. 2nd

We continued our discussion of propaganda and the use of fear to control people using a few clips from Bowling for Columbine and the prose passages in Act One.  We read from pages 16-28, so if you were absent, please read these pages on your own.  Next class, we will finish the act and write our first READING RESPONSE JOURNAL on the play.  Stay tuned for details.
